Oh, that must be so nice. We land locked folks get the frozen stuff. LOL.

    Cheers!

I know she is docked near here as we see her quite often, but I'm not exactly sure where. She is one of MANY in this area. There is a great little fish market about half a mile from where this pic was taken. They have their own snapper/deep sea fleet and shrimpers drop off catch on their way back to port in Alabama (we are on the FL/AL line). Joe Patti's (google - they are well known) has a fleet in Bayou Chico (just off Pensacola Bay), and there are several independant shrimpers there too. Now I'm getting hungry.

That's a wooden boat. She's probably pre-1970's and has to be a lot of upkeep!

If the shrimping industry down there is nearly as fished out as we are up here in New England, it's got to be one tough business in which to earn a living.

I know a lot of the gulf coast fishermen and shrimpers lost their boats in hurricane Katrina. I haven't heard the long-term prognosis for their business since the storm.

95% of the shrimp bought in the US comes frozen from the near east. Very little of what is sold here is caught in our own waters. Tami has photographed an endangered species!
