    Default Birdbath Hawk

We moved our birdbath closer to the house yesterday and this AM I looked out the window and saw this guy taking a bath. I think that he is a immature Red-Tailed Hawk, anybody have another suggestion? The birdbath is about 20" wide.

I am not sure what type of hawk that is, but your place is really beautiful. Everything looks so lush and green. The photograph is great too-- framed perfectly like a post card!

    Cheers!

Nice shot. He's a bit small for a Red-tailed. I would guess a Coopers or perhaps a Swainsons. You really need to see the breast to be sure. Nice to see any hawk surviving in suburbia..

Not only beautiful, but smart. All the water in Florida and he goes to the bird bath to bathe. If you look at the background of the picture, maybe we can see the reason why--see the gator wake? LOL

That is an absolutely gorgeous picture! There are avid birders who try for decades and never get such shots. For an ID try your local bird watching club/Audubon society chapter (check the internet).

Wow! You must have camera attached to you to capture moment like this! Those Hawks are so fast and alert! They would never just sit and pose. Impressive Cindy!
I am no expert on birds, but we do have a Red Tail Hawks here and they are somewhat different. I would say bigger and more light brown-ish.

I rechecked my field guides. Definitely too small for a Red-tailed, and with those barred tail feathers, it's just about definite it is a Coopers. Great little hunters, very fast.
