    Default A Monarch Moment

We brought the in-bloom and in-spike orchids in during this cold snap. This AM we went out on the lanai and I got an orchid/butterfly lovers dream come true. Attached to my Mini-Primi was a Monarch Catter in the J-Stage, in 2-3 weeks we will have a butterfly. I will keep a photo log of the process.

That is so way cool. Nature is so cool.

Last year while rooting aroung in the fall and prepping for the winter I happened to overturn a board and there was this wierd looking brown blob on it. I sort of remembered learning that it might be a praying mantis egg case but was not sure. We collected it and put it in a jar. Sure enough, a bunch of little praying mantis were found in the jar some time later. Now when I find one attached to something that is "trash" we collect them and find a protected place in the garden to hide them.

That's really cool. I remember, as a kid, I would go into the field close to where I lived and checked all the milkweed for Monarch eggs. I had about 20 Monarch eggs hatch and metamorph into butterflies. It was really cool.

    That's neat, Cin!

It almost makes me warm. Our catters do the J thing in July and August. It was 25 here today! And windy and that blasts right through the place.

We've had the screwiest weather - it was 59 yesterday. My poor body is so confused!

That's quite beautiful larvae you have there. I wish we had those up here in Canada.
