    Smile Big Moth

    Hello Nature Lovers;
    This wonderfully huge moth landed on my back screen and not only allowed me to take close up pictures, it allowed me to open its wings up ever so gently to show the wonderful 'eyes' underneath. I haven't a clue as to what it is called, I was so taken with the fuzzy or hairy little thorax it has. I would guess it had a wing span of about 4 1/2 maybe 5 inches across.

    You had a Polyphemus Moth, This beautiful moth is named after the one eyed giant of Greek myths. It is a beautiful moth which has 2 generations per year in the southand feed on the alder, elm and hickory.

    I would love to find it on my screen. Not many moths in the desert.

    Such beauty. Most people think of moths as "ugly" and butterflies as "pretty"...but this moth is more beautiful than 90% of the butterflies I see around here.

    What a find!

    Thanx for the info...now I'll know what to call it next time it comes by for a rest on the back screen. It was so docile, maybe it was drunk off my orchid honey. I have my 'Momilani Rainbow' in bloom on the front porch and the honey is dripping off the petals, sepals and stems in huge drops. I was wondering if the moth had pollinated any of my pretties. My porch is in full color this week.
