Ya know. Looking at the pic of it him on the ground, his heads looks very red tail, but on the wire? I see red shoulder. Too slim for a red tail. Now I'm unsure.
If it's very vocal , that might also be an indication of red shoulder. Mine was a crybaby.
Funny story, when I was raising him, he would scream at me to feed him. It's not good, but I had to train him to be fed by me so that I could train him how to hunt on his own. He was less that three weeks old when he was brought to us.
Anyway, there was a bluejay who lived in one of our trees. He learned the call of the hawk, as they often do. And I swear that blue jay is still around even though we move ten miles away. Ten years ago. Each hawk has a unique cry and It really sounds like the bluejay who taunted me then.
I hacked the hawk out and released him after about five months. I hope he is well.
PS. I worked in a wildlife rehab.

Good work, Charles. I live near a raptor center that does nothing but rehabilitation (if possible) or providing permanent homes for those too badly damaged to return to the wild.

Yeah, this one hollers like crazy. That is how we know he is around, and it is a very very distinct cry. He sits up on the wire and carries on for about five minutes then a big one comes along and they fly off.

Look at those legs! Must be a red shouldered. What a lovely bird to have in your yard!
