Really? I was thinking it wasn't getting enough. Winters here in PA (especially in my apartment) can be dreary. It hasn't had any "direct" light since I purchased it Sunday.

What are causes for leaf tip curl or is this normal? Thanks to all for answering my questions as I am pretty clueless about orchids although I have read a lot in the last 3 days...lol.

I was just reading something that said the purplish hue could be due to root rot. Is this something i should check and if so how?

    Thanks

I once waited until the blooms faded on a Phal to repot but by then it was too late. I didn't realize how tightly they had that moss packed. There wasn't a root left in the medium by the time I repotted. I find that Phals don't mind repotting in spike or bloom. I now repot as soon as I get the plant home. I use either fine bark mix, or, if I am going to grow them at home, Sphag moss, lightly packed, but in a clay pot to assist with drying.

Phals with pink flowers sometimes have dark edges on the leaves and a purple color under the leaves.

Mine is in a clay pot wit drainage. How do I tell if the moss is packed too tightly? Is there an easy wat to repot this without it being majorily traumatic and where do I get the mix? I did see an orchid mix at a box store but can not recall what brand. Do I need a speciality store?

Is the leaf tip curl normal or anything to worry about?

Any info about this will be appreciated.
    Thanks again.

Kelly - babe, you really have got phal issues. They love you really, they just don't know how to show it! (Reminds me of my dad a bit - emotionally retarded... )

How curly is the leaf curl? I'm sitting here staring at my phals, and quite a lot of them have the tip of the leaf curling under slightly, especially the newer leaves. Any chance you could post a photo so we could see the problem, if there is one?

I will "try" to post a pic when I get home but I will have to figure out how.
They are not real curly...at least they weren't this morning.

    Thanks again.
