Question New Paph - Help, please?

    Hello, all!

I got this cutie last week from the farmer's market... it's a noid, but still really cute so I had to get it. Mom was in there earlier in the day and put it back because it was a noid. Silly moms.

Anyway... it's been a week and it's still stuck in the same partially open stage that I bought it in last Thursday. Is the dorsal stuck? Is it a mutant? Is this normal for some paphs? It looks like it's probably a first bloom or at the very least a small division. The whole plant is only about 5-6" high.

Have been making sure to maintain moist, but not wet media... It's under lights on my mom's cart thingy with lights on from I think 5am - 11pm. Humidity is around 32% (I know, that's on the low side - but mom doesn't have a humidifier).

    Thoughts? Ideas? Comments?

    Hmm...just a musing...

I'm thinking that it will eventually open up as the only vini paph that I has does that too. It takes a while to "inflate" the hood. (Maybe about a week?)

It looks like it is just opening up. Give it light and time.

    Cheers,

usually takes several days to a week for the flower to fully set. if you want that thing pointing at you and not at the ground (in nature, the dorsal shields the pouch and prevents rainwater from collecting in the pouch, which leads to rot), try raising the back end of the pot and waiting a full week for the flower to set.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

So if it's been in this exact position for at least a week already, does that mean it's set and probably won't open? It looked like this when I bought it in the store last week and I don't think it's moved much if at all. I'll try tipping it a little and see if I get much change.

What ever it looks like at least it's alive and blooming. Much better than mine! BTW it's very cute.

these spotted ones are the best!
I think it has gotten stuck perhaps b/c you say its been a week. Hopefully it will bloom normal next time. I'm not sure what could make it stuck, maybe dryness? I have never had a dorsal get stuck yet.

    That is really cute Sara.

I hadn't realised they took so long to fully open, I'm used to my phals taking about 2 days, but I had been looking at my bulldog paph over the past couple of days thinking that it didn't look like that when I bought it in bloom last year, now I know why. You learn something new every day....
