the buds or the flowers fell off? Have it blooming for 6-7 weeks for you and who knows how long it was in bloom when you purchased it. I believe there is a culture sheet for Phals on this site. Some will sidespike from that node you left but I usually cut all winter blooming Phal spikes by Mid Aug anyway to give strength to the plant so I get a new spike next winter. The flower quality on a new spike is much better than on a side spike.

Hi Basil,

I recommend posting a photo if you think something is wrong with your orchid. I suspect, as Ron has said, that it was probably time for the flowers to fade. If, however, it was actually buds that fell off, then there may be a problem - especially if you have had it in the same place for several weeks and it seemed alright. Best way to get the best advice is post up a photo and let the members here who grow phals take a look at it for you. Include a full shot of the plant and any problem areas. If you take the orchid out of its pot, photograph the roots as well.

Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .
