Now the bottom leaf of the oldest fan has gone yellow (left side of the picture you can see it beginning to yellow). What's wrong with this guy?

Hi , usually the oldest lower leaf on the oldest fan dies off .
The other I get off and on certain times of the year don't know if it is from heat or ? What I have done is coat the area with Diaconal from a box store then cinnamon if it starts to spread or does not dry up I cut the leaf below the damage . Gin

I usually just cut the leaf below the problem too. I use a razor blade and make a new point for the leaf.

ditto...it just seems to happen. It seems to start off as cellular colapse sometimes. Air movement can help and keeping it moist.

    I agree with the above.

    What is your growing medium?

It's in very loose sphag now and it sits in a tray of water. I'd prefer any kind of other medium above sphag but I guess this phrag likes sphag better than anything else. I rinse the pot every other watering and just top up the tray during the watering in between.

I would take it out of the tray of water and water every couple of days they do like water but also air to the roots with the Spag. against the lower leaves and base beware of rot especially if cool . I know a lot of people grow them sitting in water I tried it , now just water every couple of days depending on the weather .That is how I do it maybe not the best in your conditions . Gin

not sure if that's something infectious or not. it's not the typical "leaf tip die back" from over-fertilization and/or over-dryness at the root zone but I have seen this spotty pattern in some of my softer-leafed phrags, i.e. besseae hybrids. I cut off the affected part, +- a smear of cinnamon, and cut back on fertilizer. sometimes that does the trick.

and an oldest leaf turning yellow is rarely a cause of worry!
