I've had another look at the pic and the cane is definitely upside down. Put the cane out of the pot and put the leaf bit in some spag moss and keep it damp, not wet. Only needs a small pot.

    Wait for it.....
I was just about the flip this guy around and to plant it properly and then I say this... a nice fresh new growth. This is the first thing this guy has done (besides staying very still). Should I still flip it around?

being it is starting a new growth from one of it's nodes and that growth is growing the correct direction, LOL. I would leave it as is and consider the old cane the "mother plant" and culture the new growth. Eventually the upside down cane will wither and die but right now it is giving it's strength to the keikis.

You're doing everything right - now get that new growth into some sun so it can grow a bit!! Dends mature their new growths quickly if they are kept humid, have good air circ and good light levels....sunlight is preferred, but shoplights are fine too, 16 hours a day.

I had to laugh when I read your post. In another life I worked in a "woody plant" nursery up north and I can't tell you how many times after doing cuttings, I'd find that they had been "stuck" upside down!Good lick with you dend.
