I used to have a recipe but couldn't find it last time I looked. This seems to work on Phals.

A friend of mine suggest to use coconut water and splash it to the spike (without flower of course). dont go too much, a drop of coconut water would be better. but its depends to the phals habits, some might grow keiki without nothing (like phal pulcra) but most of taiwanese grower's phals wont grow keiki's.

I read a posting on another board about boiling willow branches and allowing the mix to "brew" overnight and the resulting liquid was like a rooting hormone, but I don't know if it is the same as "Keiki-Pro" and other keiki producing products. I have used KiekiGrow Plus. It is a lanolin based hormone product that I purchased from the manufacturer in Canada. Like so many things in life, timing is everything. So it is with using these hormone products. If don't apply them at the right time they don't produce the desired results. This has been MY experience; if applied too soon after flowering the nodal bud forms a new spike and not a keiki. I have had good results after some experimentation.....my primary reason for using this homone product is to save plants that have gotten crown rot.

BikerDoc....What a Beautiful Sight ! Thank You So Much for Posting those Pictures ...

please let me introduce myself... this is my first post on Orchidtalk...

I've really liked Orchids since about 1992 when I lived next to an Orchid farm in Fla and was first introduced to these beautiful plants. well... I dont have alot of money .... so I would just peruse the greenhouses and ask questions. (my friend worked in one as their maintenance man ).. and I'd buy an occasional Blemished or discounted plant...hehe ... then I moved to TN and over the first couple years....i lost the 6 or so plants due to the different climate and My lack of proper care probably (not moving to bigger pots maybe ?)... Phals have so far been my faves...but i had a couple diff kinds but i dont rem. the names (see ! ...I need to Learn... I want to be like a sponge here )

I got a few orchids a few years later...and was able to keep them alive for about 2 years and 2 blooms...but once again...i lost them to lack of proper care i think...

well ...i'm trying this AGIAN ...and Im gonna get it right ! even if I have to set up a greenhouse room with optimal conditions ...

ANYWAYS..... i just learned about keikis in the past week or two...and just bought some keikigrow plus.... and Now these are the nicest and best pics i've found yet ...of what the Phal keikis could actually look like (these are Phal keikis ?...right ? )... and I'm getting very excited...

BikerDoc ...when you say timing is critical... could you please elaborate a little (or even if anyone else could elaborate..on the best exact timing ...relative to the flowering stages) It would be So greatly appreciated !!!
I have a few different Phals... in different stages of flowering.... and I'm holding off doing the paste/node procedure till i know which plant (in which stage of flowering) would give me the best Shot at this being successful (growing a keiki )

You ALL have a wonderful site here...and any advice would be greatly appreciated .... and Once again ... Inspiring Pics BikerDoc...Thanks !
