Smile Would cattleya aclandiae like S&H culture?

    Hi all!

I recently purchased a cattleya aclandiae from a reputable vendor, and I was looking for some suggestions as to its culture. I know it likes high light, good air circ, needs to dry out quickly, and would do best with a drier winter rest period. However, when I read that it likes to dry out quickly and likes to have good air circ, I started thinking, would it like hydroton?

I don't really want to unmount it if you all don't think it would do well...I'm tired to killing these expensive plants, LOL. If I don't keep water in the reservoir, maybe it would be dry enough for it?

    All advice welcome!

    Thanks,
    ~Becky

If it is all ready mounted, don't you want to keep it that way? It does mean dunking it at least once a day, but it will definately dry out well!

The thing is, its covered in sphag, and that keeps the moisture in, so I'm thinking of taking off the sphag anyways...

I wish I could help, but I would probably leave it mounted if it is indeed established that way, but you are the guru of S/H so, you can probably make it grow successfully that way as well. Best of luck wiht your decision.

    Cheers,

I have seen it grown in s/h. I grow mine in Hydroton in a teak basket so not s/H
I have a hybrid of it growing in s/H. If it is established on the mount, I would leave it

I would leave it too un mount it would break roots which would not make it happy .. When in active growth water more when not growing then keep a little drier . Gin

Ok all, I'm gonna leave it alone It seems pretty happy on the mount, so I'll just let it be and see how it does. Thanks for your help!

I agree Becky, if it's happy where it is, leave it be.
