It hasnt grown the second plant ( basal keiki?) since I got it that was already there but the spike is new, to be honest after rotting two Phals already this one has pretty much been ignored! it gets watered when the roots are silvery and other than that I leave it alone. I thought basal keikis happened when the plant was dying and was its last ditch attempt at surviving.

thank you all so much for the comments I will definaely post photos when and if this guy flowers!

you know, this is one of the most important thing that an orchid grower needs to learn... how much love is too much... I use to water all my orchids to their detriment... and that because I kept thinking they needed the attention... but now that I haven't as much time to spend looking at every change, there seems to be less dying.... go figure...

This looks to be a really healthy plant. Tim's comment is worth repeating--too much loving attention can be detrimental. At the very least, it often results in overwatering. Enjoy your blooms--it'll probably seem like they're taking forever to arrive, but it will be worth the wait when they get here.

BTW, while I'm at it, a belated welcome to the forum--I missed your "debut" because I was busy with preparations for my local OS show. You've been a here a month and already a senior member! I think you have it really bad. The only prescription (no cure available) is to go out and acquire more orchids!

    Cheers,
    Rob

Thank you Rob the problem here is everyone keeps showing me photos of wonderful orchids they are growing and I decide I want them all, which is a bit of a problem as I dont have very much space, so instead I drool over everyones photos and tell them how beautiful they are and I seem to have posted a little too much I just love this place and how friendly everyone is without everyones help my collection would not have grown it would probably have died! My husband has banned me from buying anymore as i dont have the room right now but hey I am sure we can sneak another in somewhere! I recently bought some just deflasked seedlings not realising at the time quite how young they were ( my dumb mistake it did say deflasked) so they are my latest challenge to keep them alive. If I dont kill them I will post pictures. Thank you for the welcome and the kind comments sorry if I am hijacking the board! I just love it here.

If one of my orchids dies, I need 2 new ones to cheer me up. You should try the same logic. lol. I have about 25 now. I lost a few this year, but I'm waiting until my current blooms to drop before buy more.

LOL stacey sounds good logic to me I have a lot of orchids now and I need to be more organised with their watering I have a spreadsheet with a page worksheet for each orchid but I forget to put on when I water them and feed them so its not as much use as I hope LOL If the babies die I will jsut have to go and get some more orchids maybe some miniatures that dont need a tank, I can have more if they are miniature  problem is I have a lot of seedlings which I am going to have to be very patient with as I wont get blooms for a long time and I am itching to bloom something my Phal equestris var alba is on its way to flowering but I seem to be watching it too much thinking how big is the spike now lol what is it they say a watched pot never boils! when we get more organised and get upstairs cleared so I can put some in the front box room I will have more room and maybe an excuse to get some more!
