    Thanks,

    HI Thomas,

Depending on how you grow, you will hear different ideas about fertilizing. If you water twice a week during the summer months, say on Saturdays and Wednesdays, then it is a good idea to feed on say Wednesdays and water with pure water on Saturdays. This keeps the fertlizer salts from building up and causing burn to the leaf tips and orchid roots. In this example, mix you fertilizer 1/4 the strength suggested on the package.

    Cheers,
    BD

    another dumb question,
I like to do this with my other plants, I put them in the bathtub and let the water run through them for maybe 5-10 mins, good idea or bad. I was told a long time ago that it "rinses the waste out of the soil and areates it in the process. I know with the bark that there must be a constant air exchange going on there but just wanted to know!

    Thanks
    Thomas

That is a good question. I only "feed" them that way. Now I wonder if that is good.

I have read that it is a good idea to let at least 20% of the water flow out of the pot. Easy for the greenhouse and outside growers; more difficult for us windowsillers.
