Unhappy Lost new leaf at tip of Phal

    Hi,
If a Phal loses the new leaf at the top of the plant, will it throw up another or does that kill the growing point?

I was repotting my largest, oldest Phal today, and since I've had some problems with mealybugs on it I decided to go over it with the sink sprayer to clean out all the leaf axils just as a preventative measure. But when I jiggled the new leaf tip - about a half-inch long at that point - to spray around it, the whole thing popped right out! Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. I finished the repotting and the plant is otherwise quite healthy, but I'm concerned it won't grow correctly now.

Any ideas about what to expect from it?

    Thanks in advance!
    Nina

Have you any photos of the plant to show what is left? if there is some left and the crown is undamaged it might grow another. I am very new to all this so dont take my advice as such, hopefully someone will come along to help soon, but photos would be a great help.

Orchids are fairly tough. If you take care of the plant and it is healthy otherwise, it will be okay.

Thanks. I don't have any pix of it at the moment, but it's pretty big and otherwise healthy. Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Thanks for the reassurance. It grows so much differently from most of my plants; I'm used to pinching out the growing tips to make plants branch out, so it kind of freaked me out when that leaf came out on a non-branching plant! I guess time will tell.
