Default peudobulbs going brown from the bottom up

Hi guys , I've had 2 or 3 pots of cattleyas/epidendrums which just seem to have the problem of the peudobulbs going brown from the bottom up. It continues even after I have cut off the brown ones to stop the chain of events to spread to the other peudoblubs on the same plant. This means the "eyes" do not have a chance to grow. Any idea on what may have caused this? I've been thinking about re-fertilizing my home garden for ahwile now but certainly dont want to go through all that effort if it's something else.

    Cheers
    Sean

Sounds like rot, perhaps. Do you have pictures? What are they potted in and how much do you water?

I'd agree, sounds like rot. On here, it's usually much faster to just post a picture.

i agree sounds like rot to me too.... this has happened to my catts a few weeks ago as it
was raining straight for weeks, and my catts are grown outdoors. when i looked at the
roots they were all rotted and mushy. So i suggest take a good look at the roots and
    repot.

WELLLL.....I've looked on other forums as well....and it sounds like you guys are right (by popular demand it sounds like rot). I'm taking it into the garden centre to have the guy there look it over to confirm.

Ooops! We neglected to ask, brown a mushy/soft, or brown and firm?
