Question watering orchids with Ice Cubes?

Hi, I just bought a generic orchid that had a tag on it that tells me to use ice cubes to water it. I thought orchids liked water to be tepid. What up?

There are previous posts about this and everyone agrees it's a marketing ploy. Orchids do not like cold water, therefore this is pretty bad advice. It might work okay with regular houseplants, but not orchids.

That's why I say no to all who ask me about it. Sounds like the lazy mans way of doing things.

Put the ice cube in your favorite beverage, both you and your orchid will be much happier.(This advice is from a novice of 2 years of growing orchids).

You can definitely water your orchids with ice cubes.
I think actually many ice cubes would be better.
fill 70 % of a tall mug with ice cubes.

put it in the microwave till the melted cubes are boiling.

take it out and fill the mug with the remaining icecubes until the temperature is about 30 / 35 C.

    then water your orchid.

I have heard using ice cubes or ice water during a certain cycle in growth of some genus actually promotes blooms. Nobiles for example. In Hawaii some places, weather is the same all year round and we need to create cool nights with ice or ice water. Does it work? Sometimes.

I think the instructions to use a few ice cubes is to help newbies prevent overwatering. That is an instruction I find totally wrong! Use a LOT of water (soak) when you water, but do not water very often.

I don`t know what context this means but it sounds like bad advise to me , IF it were for cool Cymbidiums for someone who is growing in a hot country maybe to give it cool nights and a temp difference .
