Andrew, if you DO NOT think it's the light, do an experiment. Take two of the same type paps. & put one in low light, one in higher light. Watch & see which plant does better. I NEVER let my paps. get sun unless it was filtered. They're yours, and you can do as you wish...Good luck! Betty

Hi Andrew, I see you're very concerned about your Paphs.
I have several Paphs too, a few hybrids and a few species. Each is somehow behaving in their own way; most of them they have low growth, but one, a hybrid one, is like yours. Tall and lanky, but later on it grews larger. And it has nodes that look like new "air" roots are coming too (as a hybrid with some kinda vanda species though ). But don't worry, I think this air roots on your Paph will stay just like it is now, they won't grow any more.
I have all my Paphs near the Phalaenopsis: morning sun till 9,30 a.m. and then bright shadow and I think they are receiving quite enough light: this late winter they were all in bloom.

Thank you so much Branka. This helps me alot. Right now they love the light they are getting and is similar to the light your giving. Except for morning sun they are getting evening sun instead. The vigor of my black cherry has increased. Funny thing is if you look at my black cherry hybrid it looks very much like your Macrabe. Interesting....Glad to know that i wont have to do anything special for the lanky one.....i almost want it to grow air roots so i can say i have the first paph with air roots...haha..joking.....again thank you so much for the pictures of the nodes and the beautiful blooms you displayed... we shall see what happens, Andrew

Now each Bract which is growing up into the air has nodes that look like new "air" roots are coming. Ive showed this to one of my friends who cultivates orchids here in florida. He said he's never seen a Paph. grow in such a way. He thinks it might be genetic. Any ideas as to why or what i should do?
I've seen this quite often with clones of Paph callosum. They seem to gallop upwards as if they are used to growing on a hillside and need to go up. This isn't unusual for several species, especially directly from the wild.
