Smile Dendrobium fimbriatum var oculatum - growing medium

I would like to know what is the best growing medium for this species. I currently have one I would like to re-pot, but would like growing medium suggestions before doing so.

I grow mine in a mix of coconut husk chips and charcoal + broken pot pieces at the bottom.

We grow just about everything in a bark/coconut/charcoal mix.

Hi Bos, If you don't like bark, try volcanic rock. It anchors the orchid, lets it breathe, you can't over water it, and yes, I have several orchids doing fine in it. Oh! Did I mention that it NEVER gets old, so you don't have to re-place it! Betty :-)

True, we pot our vandas in lava rock.

Bos if you plant your dendrobium in lava rock, you will have to treat it like a mounted plant in the growing season. Dendrobium roots are very fine and need constant moisture while growing, you may have to water everyday or even twice a day during the growing season. I grow mine in a mixture of coco husk chips, charcoal and styrofoam.
