    Default Ascocentrum curvifolium: How To?

    Hi,

I just joined the Jamaican Orchid Society, and received an Ascocentrum curvifolium as a truly surprising "New Member" present.

Now, that puts me of course into the situation to find out, how to take care best for this orchid. is here anyone who can give me all necessary guidances?

Congrats Sven. As Asctm curvifolium comes from north Thailand you should encounter no problems growing in your place, even outdoors, except during the hurricane season, of course.

Thanks. But I am still not sure about so many things.

Right now, I placed it in my bath room, so the orchid benefits from each shower someone takes. The previous owner told me, this orchid would need water on a daily base. So my thoughts were, to simulate daily rain showers with the water they catch when someone showers. One time a day, I spray their arial roots with a 20-20-20 fertilizer-water mixture.

The orchid is close to a window, catching some light. It's the light which is between two white house walls, no direct, strong light. Tomorrow I'll measure the amount of light and put it in this thread.

Also, the blossoms look a bit different from the blossoms of my POT. "Hwa Yuan Gold YK #2" and my BLC. "Rustic Spots", so I also need a pollination guide just for the Ascocentrum curvifolium (to know which elements are located where inside their blossoms, and how long it takes to produce seeds).

I made photos, and add them now!

Finally, I need the exact name of this orchid. Can anyone help?

I am not sure. I think, not. I purchased it from an orchid grower as regular variety. But indeed, they look special. :-)
