    Default Is this a brassidium?

I took my kids to the family day at the National Museum of Natural History on Saturday. They had a lot of fun. Especially potting an orchid. I'm trying to get them hooked while they are young My oldest three all have their own orchid now, bringing the total here to four. We got a Catt, a Vanda and a Brassidium. The Catt and Vanda look correct but I do not see a pseudo-bulb on the Brsdm Gilded Urchin. Here is the picture. Name: DSC_3663.JPG

Is it something that will form or did the tag get mislabeled? I am amazed that they had so many orchids and pots for people to take home. A mislabel would not be surprising. It was very well run and hats off to those who ran it.

A couple more questions. I plan on treating the Vanda like the Catt but with a bit more light. What will the Brsdm need different?

    Thanks,
    Mesker

Not sure about the plant you have there. But, if that is a brsdm orchid, treat it like an oncidium since it is a Brassia x Oncidium cross. These need high Oncidium orchid type light 1500-2000 foot-candles and temps of 70-90 daytime and 60-65 at night. 40 – 65 % relative humidity is ideal for growing this cross. Good luck!

    Cheers,
    BD

Thanks for the info. I will do my best. So far I have not done well. I count it all as learning. If I can get the kids orchids to bloom I will be very pleased. They are probably 1 - 2 years away from that though.

Mesker that is so smart to initiate the kids to orchids. I believe it is a Brassidium if it is labelled as such; as with other orchids in the Oncidium alliance, the pseudo-bulb will develop when the last emerging leaf matures.

Thanks Emos, I had wondered if it might develop later.
