Okay - update on Phillip: I spent a few hours with him this afternoon and he was in pretty rough shape then - his oxygen saturation numbers were in the mid 80s (anyone familiar with all this respiratory stuff will know that those are pretty bad numbers, considering normal numbers are generally around 98-99) - all of which means that he wasn't getting enough oxygen into his lungs, even with the various treatments they had him on. I finally spoke to his doctor, and she confirmed that they had found pneumonia in his left lung, but she dodged me on the issue of the blood clot. Anyway, they've got him on the big gun iv antibiotics now and by the time I left, his sat. #s were in the low 90s and he was much more alert - and demanding cheesecake for dinner!

Things are improving, but they're keeping a close eye on him, which is good, because he makes a terrible patient - he was ready to leave with me today - total insanity.

I read your messages to him while I was there and he was very touched and wanted me to thank everyone for their concern - as do I, since I'm dealing with this alone here in Atlanta (family and friends are scattered all over the country) and y'all have really filled in the void.

And thank goodness for those orchids - they're keeping me busy enough to stop fretting from time to time.

Our gratitude goes out to all of you, more than I can say.

Also, I may have missed the start of your orchid saga, but how did this person get her hands on your collection to begin with?

Long story - but a lot of it is in some earlier posts in this thread, particularly 2 long ones between Kassie (Trish) and me about 15 or 20 posts back. I'm starting to think I should write a novel about this whole experience, but it would sound pretty far-fetched - you know what they say about truth and fiction! BTW - thanks for mentioning your background in respiratory illnesses - it helps to know someone has a lot of experience with it - I'm on a steep learning curve here.

So glad to hear Phillip is feeling better. Hope he has a speedy recovery from here on out. Did he get to have his cheesecake?

    Unhappy

UPDATE ON PHILLIP: the doctors have put him on a ventilator and are going to do more tests to see why he isn't responding. I talked to him briefly this morning, because he'll be sedated for quite awhile. Now I'm getting scared and saying lots of prayers. It's so frustrating that there's so little I can do.

    Maura--

Yes, I can see that it sounds scary, and I am sorry to hear this. It also sounds like his doctors are keeping on top of things though....and, that is good. I am sending up prayers for you, for Phillip and for the medical team. Hang in there!

Maura - my thoughts are with you and Philip, there is nothing worse than being the loving wife going through all this. I know how helpless you must feel but Philip rests better knowing you are there by his side. This is all so scary for you both, be sure to bring a warm sweater or shawl with you since Hospital waiting rooms always seem to be so cold. Everyone here is pulling for Philip and keeping you both close to our hearts.

Thank you, everyone. I'm going to take break and go spend some time in the Orchid Conservatory - the stress is getting to me.
