Okay - update on Phillip: I spent a few hours with him this afternoon and he was in pretty rough shape then - his oxygen saturation numbers were in the mid 80s (anyone familiar with all this respiratory stuff will know that those are pretty bad numbers, considering normal numbers are generally around 98-99) - all of which means that he wasn't getting enough oxygen into his lungs, even with the various treatments they had him on. I finally spoke to his doctor, and she confirmed that they had found pneumonia in his left lung, but she dodged me on the issue of the blood clot. Anyway, they've got him on the big gun iv antibiotics now and by the time I left, his sat. #s were in the low 90s and he was much more alert - and demanding cheesecake for dinner!
Things are improving, but they're keeping a close eye on him, which is good, because he makes a terrible patient - he was ready to leave with me today - total insanity.
I read your messages to him while I was there and he was very touched and wanted me to thank everyone for their concern - as do I, since I'm dealing with this alone here in Atlanta (family and friends are scattered all over the country) and y'all have really filled in the void.
And thank goodness for those orchids - they're keeping me busy enough to stop fretting from time to time.
Our gratitude goes out to all of you, more than I can say.
