Unhappy paph Harold Koopowitz (Malipoense X Rothschildiana) health...

    Hello everyone!
Like the title says, i have a paph. Malipoense x Rothschildiana which i am worried about.
It is very recent purchase, (not an impulse buy, i wanted to grow paphs for about five years now, and have planned on getting one) - but after i brought it home, i started to have significant doubts.

    1. i have found an adult mealybug on one of the leaves (which was immediately removed), and plant quarantined

    2. the leaves have all kinds of spots on them. most of these don't make me worry - since they look like mechanical trauma - but... the edges of two leaves are brownish.

    3. it looks very robust and healthy otherwise - there are four fans growing, and the plant has an about 50 cm diameter. The new fans are green and pretty.

    Here are some photos -

    plant overall:

details of things i am worried about:

    brown spots (one leaf):

    Brown spots (one more leaf):

    Some random spots:

    Closeup of main fan:

What do you experienced folks think? Is there reason to worry? Are there things i should or should not be doing?

Please help me out with this, it's my first paph, and i'm anxious not to kill it / do anything wrong.....

The brown area on the tip of the leaf is too much fertiliser building up. It is an indication that you -or the previous owner, was giving it too much fertiliser and maybe not flushing with pure water as often as he should have. I would not worrry too much about it but bare in mind that you should flush at least every third or fourth watering if you feed weakly weekly. I see a very healthy paph and other than that you can be happy with it.

I would also suggest you mix up some dish soap and rubbing alcohol with some water and spray it on the plant. I can see some white fuzzy stuff that looks like you have more bugs. Generic dish soap with no hand softening or bleach additives...something cheap will work fine. Retreat every four or five days to kill any newly hatching. And I sometimes pour whatever mix is left through the pot to kill any hiding down in the bark/spag. Good luck...the bugs are tough this year. Even my favorite nurseries are having trouble controlling them this year.

    Hi Connie -
The white you see on the leaves are stains from water. We have very hard water here - and in the nursery the misting sometimes leaves marks like that - so that is not a problem, thank goodness!

Thank you for the advice at any rate - i will do this if i see any signs of trouble!

Allright Here's an update on this plant!
Not only did i not kill it in these two years, and not only did it get about 400% the size it was, this happened:

    *happy dance*

this is the size of the plant now. (the largest growth in the old pictures doesn't exist any more - the new fans took over the pot, and the plant seemed to just cancel it. it died over a short while, and since then the plant just got bigger and bigger. it seemed not to need it...) it's hard to show just how much bigger it is now overall - but each of the new growths is about 250-400% bigger than the largest fan in the old photoes. it's insane

I can't wait to see what happens
