Unhappy Not sure whats going on with my phalaenopsis

So I received this phalaenopsis as a gift, it was starting to bloom when it was given to me ( around feb 4th or so ). the container it arrived in was plastic...but it had a few holes in the bottom, and a bark substrate ( only bark, it wasn't a mixture of any sort) so I left it as it was. All was well up until...about a week ago, the leaves that were at the base of it started to fall off, about one each day. then the blooms were soon to follow, there are still a couple blooms on my orchid...but not many. As of today, there aren't any leaves at the base of the orchid. There are spots in the roots that are extremely dry and some spots appear firm and not dried out, I don't know if it was the bark that it was in or what. I only water it once a week, and I let it get morning light as well. I'm afraid my orchid is going to die :[

Today, I repotted my phalaenopsis in an orchid potting mixture ( as well as a new clay pot ), not sure if that was the correct route or not.

Perhaps someone knows what may be going on with my poor phalaenopsis?

    any help would be appreciated!

I don't know what it is, but I do know it goes through growth stages, putting all of its energy into 1 part. It possibly looks like it was "pushed" into producing the last flowering and it's really tired. I read you can trick it into reblooming more than what's normal, but you have to watch it because the plant needs to rest. The merchant probably was doctoring it up because they sell when blooming more.

Perhaps someone has some tips on special care to help it focus on resting/recouperating. Most likely it's not gone yet! Hope this helps.

That seems like a really quick downhill turn for this Phal it looked really healthy so I can't understand why it got so sick.. Perhaps the quality of water and the pot being too small for the Phal so there is no gas exchange in the roots. Noe that it has no leaves I will say that recover chances are very low

doesn't look good unfortunately. Watering once a week is fine depending on the medium and growing conditions. From your first picture, I can't tell if that is bark or peat. Phals should approach dry but not totally dry between watering. Too wet and the roots rot, too dry and you lose the root system. I am wondering, from looking at your roots in second picture, if you allowed it to overly dry between watering.

They say, once you killed your weight in orchids you can consider yourself an expert grower. Seriously, it is a learning experience. Following cookbook instructions does not always work.
