Question Vanda Patchara delight blue Orchid Growing question

    Hi
I was following an old thread posted ages ago about someone who was trying to grow his Vanva in a vase.
I bought this mature vanda a year ago and had to do major surgery on the roots almost as soon as I got it. It was potted in just charcoal and all the roots were mushy and rotten.
I figured it was a gonner and couldn't lose by being aggressive.
I left one short root right up by the plant and anchored the plant in some bark. I am happy to say that it has fat new roots growing like crazy and has added many new leaves since then.
I am a windowsill grower and have has some nice shelves made for my windows.
I know this vanda will have very long roots and that many people mount them- I was wondering if I should leave it in bark or try to anchor it in a tall vase.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

    Hi BD
I actually did mount two Vandas in tall vases with colored class. They looked very nice. I took the advice of others and filled the vases with water for 3 hours each day and then drained them and let the roots dry. The vandas seemed to like it, new leaves were growing- but I realized after a month or so of this routine that I would never be able to keep up with the watering schedule (what to do when I went on vacation etc...) so the long and short of it is, I repotted them traditionally and they are still making new healthy leaves. Just too lazy to keep up with the water thing every day... Thanks for checking in.

    Default Thank YOu

    Hi
Thanks so much for the information. I really loved then in the vases- but the daily watering was a read drag and 30 minutes sounds much better to me than 3 hours soaking- They are growing and are not getting pleated leaves- so all seems well with them!
I love being able to hear from so many folks with such good advice and tips!
Thanks again your vanda is beautiful!
