    Default cleaning my orchid window

I need to clean my orchid window that has a some black, I would say, mildew around the edges of all the windows. I just feel the whole area needs to be sterilized. I am thinking of using a bleach solution. Is that safe for the plants? Of course they will be out of there when I clean. Do I need to use something else or is bleach okay. Sorry I have been gone so long. I find this site hard to understand how to use. Is there a site for instructions?

    Hi Carolyn,

Bleach should be fine when cleaning your window. Be sure to have ventilation while you are working.

Here is a link to the instruction threads for the forum. Using the Boards . On the home page is a menu called Help Links that has a list of frequently asked 'how to' questions you may find helpful as well.

Carolyn, Bleach is excellent but you need to dilute it, 1 part bleach to 4 parts water. Ventilation is important and wear rubber gloves and your oldest clothing that you don't care about because that bleached water does splatter. - martha

Thank you all for your help. Bleach it will be and I think it is the humidity that is causing the mildew/mold. Not heavy so time to stop in now.
I was having trouble with the acrylic window tray to hold water and the heating coil. It would crack and then leak. It dawned on me that I could just get some pond liner rubber, cut it to fit, set the base of the acrylic liner that had the posts to keep the wire mesh above the heater coil and water and hold the plants. No more leaking problems and easy to clean
