Default Oncidium (baby) question - Rescue

    Hi all!
I'm still way too new for all of this and it's giving me anxiety! I was at the store picking up some wine and I wasn't expecting to buy an orchid but y'all are right about this "addiction". So I found what I've now determined is an oncidium and was checking out the roots when this baby bulb fell out of the sphagnum. It is about the size of a nickel and has one pretty banged up leaf and one root. I still haven't figured out how to post photos. Until I do can you guys offer some advice? Is here any chance this thing will grow? What should I do?!

Thank you all so very much!!
    C

To post pictures you must re-size the image down to be no larger than 700 x 525 pixels. Then using the 'picture frame' icon above this entry box, enter the info for the picture there. I use a 3 party host, photobucket dot com, to do all this with.

And yes, there is a very good chance to grow this 'gift'! Seeing it (pics) would be most helpful. If you want to email me the image to attach for you, Private message me for my email address.

Sight unseen, I can recommend that you:

    1. immerse the plant in rooting hormone-containing warm water (KelpMax, K-L-N, or SuperThrive - make sure they're fresh, or they're worthless) for about 30 minutes,
    2. pot it in a small amount of loose sphagnum (loose so it's moist, but very airy),
    3. put it in a clear baggie to maximize the humidity (it is not necessary to totally close it),
    4. and keep it warm and in diffused light (I'd like to say "shady", but a lot of folks interpret that as "in the dark").

In a few weeks, when you see new root emerging from the base of the plant, you may repot it into your medium of choice, and start treating it "normally".

I'd say follow what Ray says - that's the best advice to try and save the 'baby' O.
