Default Has Anyone Grown Phalaenopsis 'Orchid World'?

I've been growing a couple of supermarket Phals for a couple years and I got one of mine to re-bloom, I looked online and splurged and got a fragrant Phalaenopsis called 'Orchid World' that I heard won a bunch of awards at one point.

    Has anyone grown this before?

Will this be as easy to grow as my other Phals, or should I try to get the humidity higher or consider anything else?

Do all Phals need cold temperatures to bloom? I saw a video where someone put an orchid above a tray of ice (not with the pot sitting in the ice) so that the temperature could go down and provide some cold. I'm thinking of trying this one one of my Phals, what do y'all think?

I live in Zone 8a, and I have an east-facing window...I'm curious if I snuggle the Phal next to the window in the winter, would it actually be cold enough to get it to re-bloom?

Phew, okay so there are my questions. Any help is welcome! Also not sure if this was the right section of the forum to post this?

A beautiful Phal Orchid World. Under my growing conditions (as for cattleya) I find this phal easy to grow as opposed to the large whites and pinks. It doesn't need a cooler period to initiate blooming.

Phal Orchid World (no single quotes) got many awards, mostly back in the 1980s and 1990s. Without more information it is impossible to know if your plant is an awarded clone or not.

As cattan said, it does not need cool nights to initiate blooms. Classic pink and white Phals with the tall arching spikes are the ones that typically need that. Orchid World can be almost always in bloom on a mature plant since each spike tends to bloom periodically for several years. Find care instructions for Phal amboinensis, the predominant species it the background of Orchid World, and you will have a good model to follow.

For those Phals that do need cool nights to initiate flowering, the easiest thing to do in zone 8 is to keep them in a protected spot outside for a few weeks when days are warm but night temps are falling into the 60s or upper 50s F at night. Temps near a window inside in winter won't necessarily do it.

I have Orchid World 'Bonnie Vasquez Am/AOS'. The plant is in bud right now. Not any different than any other Phal. hybrid. One of my favorites-beautiful and fragrant.

Nice too know some of the history of the hybrid! Thanks for the info. I should be getting the phal in next week so I'm excited!!

I read somewhere that this type of orchid grows in a way that makes it unstable in a pot, what would y'all recommend to stabilize the orchid?

Oh and what does the fragrance on your Orchid World smell like? I hear different things about the scent, some say that it is very light and pleasant and somewhere else I read it smelled like citrus-y vomit! Lol

I'm really happy I got a phal that can bloom without the temperature drop and that it won't be a especially difficult to grow. I grow African Violets and I know with those some varieties are famous for their fussiness so they aren't recommended for the beginner. I imagine thats the same with orchids.
