Do what the locals do - they should know.... Miss Joaquim is your national flower after all.

Hi Marcus, Not sure what you mean by "planted without a pot". Right now my little stick (the thing is 9" long) is in a mix of mainly bark, with some sphagnum and shredded coconut husk. It seems to be holding its own. Images of it that I found on the web have shown it planted (not sure in what, sometimes it looked wild so whatever that soil is) or mounted with some shredded looking medium. If you are treating it same as in various local gardens, I would think you are fine. Interested to see what others think

For the time being I do use that sprinkler to water the Vanda's that I have in a tree and it also gets the Miss Joaquim and 4 Spathoglottis that are on the back side of the house. I am going to be building another structure for all my Vanda's both those that like the shade under the tree and ones that can take direct sunshine. I will then have a irrigation system put in, I am hoping that I can also get some misting heads on the Joaquim as I really need that sprinkler for my front yard that has new grass if not I will just use the hose to water as they do love water.
