    Question Growing healthy roots...

    Hello everyone,
I am growing orchids in my balcony, windowsill as well as under artificial light. I am having the problem of root growth and ultimately plant growth. They are just stable. I want some suggestions from senior peoples to recover this problem.
    Thanking you,

First, ensure that the media is not breaking down. So it doesn't retain too much moisture and suffocate the roots. Then figuring out when the roots are dry enough to water again.

Also, many of us use a Kelp product to stimulate root growth.

As a general practice, I believe the use of a very "open" medium, and frequent, heavy watering, coupled with decent humidity is the key to great roots. Also, avoid heavy use of fertilizers.

Lots of things to consider Prashant and it depends a lot on what you're growing. This time of year with the high temps we've been seeing, if I don't soak Vanda in a bucket for at least half an hour each day I don't see any root growth at all. Same with mounted Phal's.

I would agree with Harvey and Ray. Chris has a good point!

A lot of successful orchid growing, IMO, starts in being observant and learning, by trial and error in some cases. We all have to learn what is right to do for our particular environment and particular orchid type's.

Hello Prashant, Allow the plant to settledown in your environment before it starts growing roots. It might take a couple of weeks in my experience and use plain water (RO or rain water) and provide a lot of humidity. I use Seaweed extract whenever I buy new plants to help them recover and root.

Ray barks KelpMax is great but you dont get them in India. You could buy any seaweed extract that is available online and would be a substitute to an extent.
