Fren - Is it because it is a named cultivar that it is patented? I can understand people wanting to protect their breeding, and 'copyright' their cultivars.

No, it isn't...not according to the tag. But it's incredible that there could be such a size difference! Could you post a pic of yours?

I can post a picture, if you want one of the plant. The spike isn't in bloom yet, but it is in spike. Maybe it will be best if I post when it is in bloom.

I think we are talking of two different plants then, because if they were the same plant I am sure yours would say it was patented too. Oh well who cares if it is a noid 'Lava Glow', its not like it will be judged or I am allowed to use its pollen. I think patented means that I can not use its pollen but I am not sure. I just don't know its genetic history thats all.

Does this mean you can't remake that cross? What about selfing the plant? And what if it decided to keiki?

Back to the original post - would something like an aerangis fastuosa be suitable? They stay small, don't they?

Thanks for the ideas and tips. I ended up planting a Pholidota chinensis and a mini something that I lost the tag to. A fan isn't a option, it would dry the frogs out too much.
