    Question Vanilla question and introduction

I am a new orchid enthusiast I live in Georgia, near Atlanta, and need some help. After attending an orchid show at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, I purchased a vanilla orchid In six months it has not grown at all. The plant looks healthy with green leaves and no sign of rot, but not an inch of growth. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Welcome to the forum, DK. Vanilla usually grows like a weed, so my first guess is it may not be getting enough light or nutrients. (BTW, since this is more of a question for our senior members, I am moving this thread to the ASK A SENIOR MEMBER section of the boards.)

Hello! I have no problems growing any Vanilla species, but here are some requirements. If you want your cutting to grow, you will need adequate amounts of light and water to start off. I'd suggest laying the cutting in a large (12"+) pot of potting soil, and watering it nicely for a month or so. It should start a new growth at the node, or at least start laying out roots. You will eventually need to find a permanent home for the plant, keeping in mind it will need higher temperatures, high light, and lots of space. Here is my large Vanilla planifolia, and the second shot is a small portion of my plant in flower...

I managed to kill my vanilla seedling after potting it in s/h...It immediately -the very next day!- stopped growing (it was growing very fast for a seedling, in sphagnum moss) and then it remained stable for 1 month and now it died. Oh well...
