    So right, Steven. I think I killed my phal because I was too scared to chop of too much of the half-dead stuff. I kept it and it just kept on rotting the plant until nothing was left to rot. It'll hurt (mentally) to cut into healthy tissue but it's so worth it if you remove all of the poisoned parts and nurse it back to life.

    I read a previous posting that had someone cutting off almost all of the roots, certainly all of the bad parts, and placing it in a clear glass container with only the root area under the water line. Nothing else added, just water. You can also try this. Just adding one more step between you and the compost bin. I would try this before completely giving up. His orchids looked great, and live in water.
