I have never paid attention to spike development but it looks awfully thick for a spike...time will tell!!!

It's a new lead. Mine Psychopsis Butterfly (sanderae x papilo) produces new leads this time of year...

Spikes are a bit more flat and more darkly colored (at least on my hybrid).

Anything watched grows Incredibly slow! Ignore it and you'll come back and it'll have grown a foot...okay so maybe not a foot, but you get the idea. These things are SLOW!

I would guess it is new growth and not a spike. It looks really thick for a spike, but it could surprise us!

I'm surpised that no opted for the 'normal' answer: it's an alien.
As far as knowing what it actually is, I have no clue as I don't own any Psychopses (SP).

    It's a spike.

(And there was great rejoicing across the land!)

I know that the time will tell but the sucker barely grew since I bought it (and I don't even watch it that closely) so I know it will be a very, very, very long time.

Whatever it is I'm glad it's at least growing even at that speed.
