    Default Problem with Vuylstekeara

Hope someone can help me. I have recently purchased several Vuylstekeara orchids and noticed this morning that one has leaves that are turning yellow and the "bulb" that the spike comes out of is squishy. It sits in the same windowsill as the others and they are all fine...they are all on the same watering schedule. Any suggestions?

center, I'm no expert but from experience with my one vuyl anything squishy is BAD. Cut it out the squishy ASAP and whatever roots look rotten and repot. I cant comment on culture because mine didn't make it. I tried to save as much as possible but didn't cut enough and the rot spread. I just cut it off a piece at a time until it was all gone instead of doing the radical surgery that might have saved it. Good luck!

Yes, time to repot. Most likely the media is broken down and is staying too wet and has caused the roots to rot off of the 'squishy bulb'. Remove it as Tami suggested. Clean up the plant and repot. Be sure you do not over pot the plant. If you do remove parts of the plant, it might be too small to put into the same pot.

    Cheers,

Thanks BD and Tami...I appreciate the tips. I'll go do that right now. It's a shame too..I just got the plant via mail order about two weeks ago! Bummer! Have a great weekend.
