Unhappy NewSheaths turning dark color on Cattelya

    Hello,
Received a beautiful BLC. MEMORIA CRISPIN ROSALES in bud. Have had a couple of weeks & noticed the sheaths are turning dark color. Does this mean my buds are dying or is this a natural process before the will open. Thanks for any advice. Heartbroken I might loose my buds!!!

Have the buds emerged from the sheath?
Assuming they have, as long as the buds don't appear to be withering or turning black/brown/yellowing then they're probably just fine.

If only the sheath itself is turning brown, then don't fret -- that's normal

    Hello,

Thank you for putting a positive note on my worry some brow:-) Do you have any idea if the shealth drys before the bud emerges? Yes, that's right I'm an advert lover of the species, but as yet have not obtained all the knowledge. Thanks again

Some sheaths do dry, but if you are really worried, you can VERY carefully split open the sheath with a razor blade or really sharp knife and take a peek inside. Don't pull the sheath open completely...
