    Default Rainwater Sources

    I know where comes from.
My question is this. My rain barrel is under an eve with a asphalt shingle roof.
What would that do to the quality of my rainwater? I used it 2 seasons ago to top off my watergarden and I felt the plants suffered. My fish were unaffected but I didn't use the rainwater for that this year.

good question lilricky. I wonder if different types of roofing will have effects on the pH or the mineral content of the water.

I guess there's also the issue of how much of the water you have captured is post flushing of the roof itself. I know many of the water tank set ups for domestic use have an initial flush system so that the first lot of water that falls are not captured but allowed to flow through to cleanse the roof.
