Default Leaf growth at Phal stem base

This is one of my first acquired phal’s, a noid. I see the tip of a new root and an inflorescence. There are also small growing sets of leaves at root level. I have not seen this growth before on a Phalaenopsis. What is developing? Is this unusual or just interesting? (The white is fungacide and insecticide spray residue.) Thanks, Joe

It's normally Bruce that brings it up, but I think it's an alien.
    Very strange looking growths.

looks like it is sending up lots of new plantlets!

doesn't happen often, usually when the plant is about to die. However your plant looks healthy.

Smartie is right. The plant is usually under stress when it does this, but yours looks really good.

How long ago did you spray? I recently sprayed three dendrobiums, and shortly thereafter, they all started putting out new growths, even though they're supposed to be resting now. One of the plants is only of so/so health, but the other two don't seem to be in any danger of dying. Still, it does seem like some sort of 'survival instinct' to me.

    Now, now, Richard. hehehe...

I think the others are correct, small plantlets. You are about to have a pot full of phals.

    Cheers,

Ang, Hmmmmm, maybe about a month or so ago. I found a stray mealy bug on an adjacent phal and let fly across the group.

I never knew phals did this when in stress.
Better get some empty pots to give them all a home when they grow up.

Some with Doritis in them will do it like this one which has five plants growing of the centre stem.
