I am so excited. Was having my morning chat with my babies, and suddenly spotted this. Looks like new growth to me!! Sorry for the poor quality of the photos. It was hard to shoot to make it really visible, so I circled it in red in one photo, and put a piece of white paper behind it in the other.

YAY!! I'm a new orchid mama!!! I think!!

Yep. New growth This plant is always putting out new leads, sometimes even before the newer leads fully mature. It's happy!

Great job, and yay for the new leads!! That is always a welcome sight And I think Clint is right about the underwatering thing...they definitely do better with less water than with more, that's for sure!!! I've noticed that about mine as well. And I love pbulbs because they are great indicators...I always make sure I know what is normal pbulb appearance for each of my plants (they are all kinda different) and if the pbulbs start to look/feel more ridged or whithered, I water. Its great! It really works. I also use the skewer method where I keep a wooden kabob skewer in the pot at all times and take it out occasionally to see how dry they are by putting the skewer to my cheek and looking at it - if the skewer looks dry and feels room temp, I will water, but it the skewer looks at all wet and feels cool to the touch, I wait.

Anne, your pictures is perfect. One of my catts has a similar growth and I wondered what it would turn into. The dark purple thing will turn into growth like the other green things? Sorry for my lack of highly technical terms. I work better in colors.

At the risk of boring everybody to tears, I must confess that I've been shooting photos daily, just to keep track of progress.

I am totally grinning, because I'm seeing so much happening. I can't wait for the first flower to be ready and to open.

Please excuse my ignorance if I'm using wrong terminology or presuming something wrong. And please, by all means correct me. I'm learning!!

Here's today's progress report (in photos):

This little sucker has been growing like crazy daily. Just about three days ago, I could barely see it peeking out from the sheath. That is a sheath, right? And this is what will become the flower?

This is the same lead I posted the other day. I think it's growing, but this one is slower than the above growth.

And I found this little surprise hiding in the middle of a bunch of foliage. Hard to photo, but it too is growing like mad. Hey, leaves are people too, right?
