    Default Maxillaria tenuifolia specimen

I've been wanting a specimen for so long but unable to find a good deal until today when I went to a local cymbidium sale and found this one. There's probably close to 75 p-bulbs.

Any help on the culture will be greatly appreciated. I am planning on transferring it to a wooden basket.

    Thanks for looking

Hey, that's a good buy there and a cool species! Mine just flowered today, opened the first two of many blooms, and boy does it smell wonderful.

A basket would prolly be fine, but mine does really well in a large pot I've got hanging with those metal pot hangers. Most I've seen have been potted similarly, and it is in medium bark and coconut husk mix. Medium-high light and kept a little dry during the winter.

Thanks, you guys. I am so excited!!! It does not appear that it bloomed before so I hope it's mature enough and gives me some blooms next season so I have something to show off...

I have some medium bark and CHC so it will be transferred to a bigger pot as soon as I have one available. I am afraid to touch the roots so I'll probably just pull it out and shake it little bit to get rid of the loose medium.

The roots are like grass roots and very dense, so you really can't repot this plant like others. Just put the whole thing in a new container or basket. Don't over-pot it. It blooms better when it gets root-bound. CHC mix might be better over bark mix IMO. Keep it moist in the warmer/growing months, but less water once the growths mature. Bright light--about 2500FC or more.

DOESN'T REALLY LOOK LIKE A TENUIFOLIA TO ME, the leafs and bulbs are too wide and a plant of that size should of bloomed before.

I was wondering if it was a maxillaria too...here is mine I just bought. You can see there is a big difference in your plants leaves and this one. Maybe yours was cut back or something??
