    Default Oncidium Twinkle "mount"

This is a little project I did with Superthrive. I got the plant at a fundraiser for four bucks and the thing really looked sad. The center was pretty much rotted out. When I did the repot, I decided to mount instead and treat one half of the plant with Superthrive and leave the other untreated...both halves were about the same size and condition. It is obvious in the photo which has been treated and which hasn't. Still, the sad looking one IS growing roots.

Cool project. I like the mount too. I hope it grows well for you.

My Oncidium Twinkle isn't doing very well. I'm going to mount it like yours but I don't think I'm going to find a mount as nice as yours.

It took me a while to decide to mount mine. The final decision was that it would be easier for me to care for like this...I can just mist and go when I need to and not worry too much about anything. There is quite a bit of sphag tucked into that cavity, but humidity in my condo is pretty low and there are "vents" all over the wood to let air in. It doesn't dry out too fast but will only stay really moist for a day or so in warm weather. If you have aquatics shops in your area, you could check there for driftwood. That is where I found mine and as soon as I have enough money for another piece and a plant to go on it, I will be back!
