Thank you guys--I'm pretty pleased with it also. I'll have to give this clone a name, just because it was the first one of the batch that bloomed.

    hmmm...

this leads me to ask: who is allowed to give clonal names? are they only allowed to be named after theyve been judged or something? do you only name them after they flower?

my phal de-flaskers from last october are growing fast. 7 of the +/- 20 plants are now in a pot of their own.

can i name the seven myself?

kewpie, sure. You can give any seedling a clonal epiteth that doesn't already have one, and you can name them at any time. Most people reserve naming until after a plant blooms, but if you want to name your seven now, (maybe name them after Snow White's seven dwarves (?? :lemmetell )) go for it! Those names aren't going to mean much to anybody except you until or unless one of the plants gets awarded, or you decide to use it for breeding.

    Congrats on the seedlings, too!

thanks, louis. you know that i couldnt have done it without your help, right? you saved them from being malnourished. and now, a few of those seven have leafspans of 5-6"! after only being out of flask for 6 months!

i might upgrade you from 'uncle' status to 'godfather' status. you wanna name some?

well, i got a flask of phals (penang girlXbellina), a flask of psychopsis papilios (yellow), and a hobby flask of neofinetia falcatas.

the phals are really taking off -- theyre the only ones that ive got in individual pots right now. the roots on the psychopsis seem too fine to be sitting in a big wet pot all by themselves. and the neofinetias seem happy hanging out together. but what do i know?

anyways, im picking out the biggest phal seedling ive got, and im gonna change the tag! its now gonna be phal. (penang girlXbellina) 'uncle lou'!!

Sort of like naming a good looking plant, 'Doesn't suck'.

I'd like to think you could do better, Louis...

Yes. That name was a joke, Julie, given my concerns about it and Rob's post a few messages up:

Louis, Come on! I knew it was a joke. I'd missed Rob's dog comment, however, in my thread hopping. So I didn't get it. I believe it had to do with the alleged joke's low humor content.

But on the whole, I'm enjoying mistaking Sue for the pink cowboy so much that I'll let this one slide.

    Julie
