    Default Cymbidium orchids

So, last night I decided to attend and sign up at our local cymbidium society. I spent $25 total; new member fee, name tag, bought a seedling for $5 plus $10 worth of raffle tickets.

And here's what I got for $25; I won 6 plants at the raffle, most of them are in spike and huge and got a free a Cym. Peppers Fire 'Fiesta' mericlone seedling for signing up.

The raffle table was donated by a well known grower/hybridizer here in Cali who was also the guest speaker and the plants are all labeled, no NOIDS, yay.

Wat to go!!! Congratulations. I love cymbidiums and am anxious to see pics of yours when in blooom. Wish i lived where you do and could grow them outside. I have two that are still outside now. Just noticed what looksa like spikes or with my luck just new growths forming. Will keep them outside until frost threatens and then move them into the basement. Hope I can get them to bloom. Again Congratulations!

Good decision!! Can't grow cyms well here. Have one that I'm keeping outside until the first real frost, but I'll be lucky if it puts out a bud spike.

Good for you Marissa. Can't grow hybrid cymbidiums here because most of these plants are HUGE and won't fit in my grow area. Besides a lot of these cymbidiums are cool growers that need a nightly drop in temperature to encourage them to flower ... something I can't provide down here in Manila without a temp controlled greenhouse. Most imported hybrid cymbds here are grown in the uplands up north in baguio or higher.

Though there are few hot-growing native cymb species here and some hybrids produced in Taiwan but their plant sizes are a hindrance for me because of my limited grow area and these need plenty of light .... full sun for most of these which I cannot provide in my townhouse area.

I will surely post photos when they bloom. I think we're just lucky here in Cali to have suitable weather to grow most orchids outside. I just can't imagine myself moving my plants back and forth.

I agree, about the size. I try to stay with compact and miniatures but even those need plenty of space also. Right now space is still not an issue because I still have a lot of empty space in the shade house that I'm sharing with my friend.

I sure would love to see a recent photo of you shade house with the plants now placed in. The last photos I saw was when you were still building it and with very few plants inside. I'm sure you've got plenty of plants in there now.
