    Question Paphiopedilum sanderae x superbiens

This little bugger is getting the wrong treatment i think....all it does is grow new leaves! It gets 40:60 light:shade, as it is ontop of the fridge (about 20-25*C), and it gets water once a fortnight, run through the media untill its drenched. This is THE only paph i have, and im not planning to get anymore if i cant master this one....Any ideas?

and whats this little doo-dacky down at the base? is it a new growth?

Yes, I would say that the dodacky is a new growth. Congrats on that. I have been waiting for my paphs to put out new growth anywhere!!!! As far as new leaves, it looks to me (although I am no paph expert) that it is just getting to blooming size or very near. The leaves are gorgeous by the way!

    Jordan,
I have often had the same problem and it is irritating. I believe we had several posts last week on patience. I think Jonada is correct, immature plant. That new little growth coming on might be your first chance at a flower, hopefully. The leaves, by the way, look very healthy.

BTW Jordan, your paph should be Paph superbiens var. sanderae. It is warm growing to intermediate and your plant looks very healthy and that whatchacallit is a new shoot.

Oh, that brings a question to mind. What kind of fertilizer has this plant been receiving? I would think some good shots of nitrogen might encourage that little guy to get moving.

Can't wait for the blooms on this orchid, Jordan. Beautiful, healthy Paph superbiens plant.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Bruce, and an update:
It looks like a 3rd growth is starting on the plant unless it blooms from the leaf axles (im sure they do too), i hope its a possible bud, either that or a new root.

My superbiens var. sanderae is quite slow growing and can be a bit fussy (alba). Gain a fan lose a fan type of thing. Keep it warm and damp.
    Looks good.
