Odd can be interesting sometimes. Do you worry that the buds will not develop correctly?

    cheers,

No, not really. I'm sure this is probably just what it does. This is its first sheath in my care. Picked it up a couple years ago from a guy who was moving and thus getting rid of most of his collection. Plant wasn't in the best of shape then and has sulked these past couple of years. Just so different from any other sheath I have seen. Considering the cattleya like growth habit, I was expecting the much simpler catt sheath.

I had one that was simular to yours. It seemed the bud grew quicker than the sheath did. The flower that was produced was lovely but the downside was that the three other small buds aborted. That was the only time I ever had that happen. After that the plant and the sheaths grew normally. Anxious to see pics of your blooms.

Coilostylis was previously in epidendrum and the growth habit is pseubobulb with a sheat crowned by 1-3 leaves. The flower sheath is typical of the species. When it blooms post a pic so we can ID it.

Taking its own sweet time -- typical orchid style.

The tag actually says "Epidendrum" on it so I have the old name and the current. Thanks for the affirmation on the sheath, Jose. While I wasn't worried about it, it is still nice to know that it is as it should be.
