Cool Wild Encyclia Tampense and a few other exotic plants

My husband took me for a walk to see something very amazing; Encyclia Tampensis just dripping off a huge old oak tree. I can't say where we went, because I don't want anyone ripping these off the tree. I'll just say it was one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen.

Nice and I'm guessing that part of that walk was a well tended botanical garden from the looks of things. It looks like you have a lovely time. - martha

Always neat to see how orchids just cling to trees even on the underside of branches.

I enjoyed these pictures Connie. Your right about the beautiful, old tree etc. Its nice to see a native orchid in Florida like this. I know Florida well enough to know how committed to development they can be there, which is hard on native species of all kinds. Al

When I started growing orchids when I lived in Miami, FL, I went to a local park that had large oak trees to see if I could find Encyclia Tampensis growing wild. I was amazed by (1) how easy it was to locate specimens, and (2) how large the plants grew. Some of the plants were only chest high so it gave me an opportunity to examine how the plant grows in the wild.
