You do indeed have a Trichocentrum ("mule-ear" Ondicium). It is not lanceanum; lanceanum has leaves which are less rigid and creased, and are purple-spotted. Post flower pictures and we'll all take a shot at an ID.

Cattleya - vanda brightly lit position. Stunning blooms, many stunning hybrids in trichocentrum range, absolutely gorgeous if you can master its requirements. I was a little to late and plant was too far gone and exhausted from nurse care for success at the time. Root rot lessons werent complete at the time. Spotted flower with a brownish bugundy on gold and bold pinkish lip. My attraction was its catt aclandae and skineri feel with its own range of hybrids and likeness. Waxy appearance on the individual flowers on inflorescence. Quite big spiker sadly no fragrance that i noticed. Definelty kept on semi moist (short time) to dry as opposed to moist damp, wouldnt hesitate at giving plant another go, pot cuulture not suitable in my conditions but thrives bare mounted dependant on a heavy daily spray. Roots are very sensitive to water quality and fertilizers, forever turning brown on tips and root lost( it was purely lack of awareness that the plant got knackered and died).Possibly very sensitive to disturbance. From hindsight much similar care as B.nodosa, the pschopsis clan and zelenkoa. Drier is better, moisture discourages and hinders decent progress.

Hope you can extract something useful from that!? With its tendency to enjoy dryness more, a balance of adequate hydration and exposure to mrning and late afternoon sun is better. Midday - too harsh and plant would wither/ wrinkle leaves. Mule ears are very picky and fussy!

Here are links to my posts regarding my Trichocentrum Olive Palmer ( Trch. haematochilum x Trch. Maureen). The name tag said it was lanceanum but after some search and help from a friend I was able to identify this one correctly. You may find some points about the culture in the first post. The second one has some nice photos from my specimen plant and it is just for bragging LOL.
