    Default New Promenaea....

Well..I got my Promenaea xanthina today....kind of a mixed bag to temper my excitement. The good news...large plant with a ton of roots and new growths. The bad news...came potted in a net pot PACKED in sphagnum moss...totally compacted, so in the process of removing the moss, I ended up breaking a lot of roots and one of the many developing shoots. I feel a bit meloncholy, hopefully the new shoots make enough root to replace the broken/cut ones.

Anyway..here is the final mount I made.

Don't feel bad, Mark...We all do things like that. The great thing is that SPRING is very close...and the orchids know it's time to put out new roots & shoots. Your promenaea will recover quickly at this particular time of year! By the way, you did a great job mounting it...looks very happy. Betty

Thanks, you are probably right...it has like 4 or 5 new shoots growing, and when they mature they should send out a few new roots each. Now at least it can go forth and prosper without needing to be ripped up any time soon. Had I left it in it's old pot, it would have rotted in my very humid chamber...so I suppose I did the best I could considering.

Thank ya...now lets hope that it survives all that root abuse it went through and someday covers that mount.
