Default I broke the bud off!!!

This morning I was checking over all my orchids and my vinicolor paph, which I have coaxed to spike and then watched an enormous bud develop. I had staked it and it had started to outgrow th stake. So.....brilliant me decided to re-stake it and in doing so, managed to snap off the bud.

I was in shock, just lookind at it in my hand. Then I was furious at myself. Now I'm just really disappointed and sad.

I really think it was going to be a beautiful bloom......

So sorry, Maura. Been there and done that. Actually, I just did it yesterday with a big floofy cattleya when trying to move the plant down to get a photo of the blooms. Broke them right off. I once broke a paph bloom spike, but not completely off, and taped it back upright. The bud started to open anyway, then aborted. Talk about sad....

    cheers,
    BD

Thanks, guys. I'm trying to work through this, but it is really bothering me - maybe a trip to the orchid nursery would help?

In all things, balance. If you lost a bud, you should find a bud.

Oh no not again !! It is very frustrating at first and then sad when this happens. I also once snapped a Cattleya bloom this way, from then on, if I stake, I stake very early and then leave them alone. Don't worry Maura, it should be blooming for you again very soon.

Did you do it 'accidentally on purpose' so that you'd have an excuse to go orchid shopping again?

This happens its accident I once knocked my Epidendrum over and the spike snapped that I have been watching for several weeks. Took a while for me to recover from the shock but now ive learnt my lesson be very careful when i move stuff about and watch how i can knock stuff about.
