Default Zygonisia Cynosure ‘Blue Water Sailing’ in bud

Just came in the mail today!! I ordered a blooming size (over in bloom/bud/spike), so I didn't expect to see buds when I opened the box. A few of the older leaves look a bit yellow, but the plant looks pretty healthy overall, with some new growth too (possibly another spike?).

Someone explain the name in single quotes? It's listed on their website as 'Blue Birds' but the tag is 'Blue Water Sailing', is that just the name of the particular version of this cross? There's nothing in the RHS database, at least in any combination I could think of. I did however find this thread from a little while ago. Glad to hear it blooms often. I've had good luck with my Zygo Advance Australia (except for the little brown rot it had recently) In any case, the flowers are very pretty (taken from the site where I purchased it)

I'm not sure about the name, but I love these zygo's. Very pretty and they are good bloomers. Does yours have a nice scent??

I have 'Blue Birds', and I love it. 'Blue Water Sailing' is a sibling, from the same grex. Cynosure is the grex (cross) name and it is Agonisa cyanea x Zygo Skippy Ku. This sit shows pics of both siblings: Zygopetalums, Photographs

    You will love yours!

Ooh thanks Kmac! So mine looks like it will be a little more yellow than the 'Blue Birds'.
I don't know yet if it has a scent but others have said it doesn't. My other one smells of lilac though, I love it!

I guess it was really ready when I got it, I noticed this morning one of the buds is already opening. So far it looks very very purple. Not complaining, because at least it blooms, but I did really want the white/purple/blue variety...

The best of luck with your new friend. It is always a nice surprise to receive a orchid in spike/bud and have no idea it's coming that way to you. I am also quite fond of Zygos and it sounds like you have had a good experience raising one already. Look forward to the full bloom photos. AL
